Dear members,
We had our first council meeting at 9 am yesterday on 4/8/2020, of the recently appointed new council members. Although the minutes of the meeting will be available, as usual, I felt it prudent to inform all straight away as to the measures taken to try and help the Club through the current difficult situation. Firstly, when the lock-down forced the closure of the club, we were in an unprecedented situation which meant we had to act quickly. The decision was taken to stop paying the Club's rent as this is the largest monthly outlay. This gave us time to successfully negotiate with the landlords to help by accepting a substantial reduction which will remain until the Club gets back into a normal position of getting the very important income and revenue, which can only happen with the use of the Club by its members and their guests, as very little revenue comes from anywhere else. More new members are what we really need and the best form of advertising are yourselves so tell friends and neighbours how good the Club is. Secondly, the council decided, at this meeting, not to raise the membership fee, which has been the same since Cyprus went into the E.U. This decision was made, of course, due to the current situation which is affecting all of us. We, the Club Council, would welcome the input from ALL members on the subject of membership fees. The funding of any club is the only way it can exist and survive , so please give us your feedback. Thirdly, the increase in bar prices. Membership fees, as they stand, will not cover the overheads of the club for a financial year. Revenue from companies that advertise with the Club is another small amount of revenue but in these trying times they are harder to find, so the bottom line is that we, the members, have to support the Club the best we can. Prices from the suppliers have increased this year, the same as every other year, so if the Club is to keep its head above water then we have to try and maintain the profit level, which of course meant that some prices had to go up, certainly for the time being, but if by some miracle, the suppliers dramatically reduce their prices, then we will be able to change them. Fourthly, we had six new members last week so let's spread the word and get six new members every week. On behalf of the U.K.C.A. Social Club Council.
