Keep Well
From September to June on Monday afternoons between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (if there's enough of us), we are dancing; loosely based around Scottish Country Dancing and Ceilidh (pronounced Kay-lee) dancing this style of dance is amazing fun - no previous experience or special clothes are needed except for flat shoes - there are no swords, bagpipes or excessive bouncing around involved, honest!
The exact programme varies depending on numbers and ability but consists of a mix of dances some of which may be familiar to modern sequence dancers, others may remind people of barn dances, some are 'set' dances others might be in circles. Everything is taught, walked through and called if necessary and kept at a fun, friendly and fairly simple level.
You don't need to come with a partner (though feel free to bring one, or several, if you have them handy!) everyone dances with everyone else in Scottish Country Dancing; The ceilidh type dances may be in couples but are usually progressive - no-one stays with just one partner, even if they want to, and most of the time you aren't dancing close to a partner, so toes are safe and no-one is fighting over who should 'lead'
Please contact Janine by e-mail at janinedancescottish@gmail.com or text 9771 5679 if you'd like to come (or just turn up!)
The session will only run if we have sufficient numbers to keep it fun.
Cost - €3.
(Non UKCA members are very welcome)
A Note on Fitness:- Some dances are reasonably fast, but most can be taken at walking pace and often are. Please let the session leader know if you have health problems but don't let them stop you coming and enjoying yourself; just do the slower dances or rest for alternate ones initially - dancing is a great way to get and keep fit, both mentally and physically - it is much more fun than the gym, before long you'll find you can dance all afternoon with very little trouble.
Please bring something to drink - water is usually available but at the moment the bar is not open during the dance session.
Access the Club house via the upper door, the main door is not open at this time.
